The night is dark, the night is cloudy,

The filtered moonlight lands in rents,

On the ground, and on the tents,

The men are afraid, the men so doughty,

For it is the hungry, the wolf alone,

The wolf is hunting, the wolf of stone.

In silence it walks, in silence it prowls,

Nearer and nearer it does creep,

All the men shake and cannot sleep,

And in the fragile serenity, it viciously howls,

For it is the hungry, the wolf alone,

The wolf is hunting, the wolf of stone.

Its presence is felt, its presence is near,

A man looks out, sees not a leaf flutter,

And hearing the howl, shrinks back with a shutter,

The fearsome creature dines on his fear,

For it is the hungry, the wolf alone,

The wolf is hunting, the wolf of stone.
