Christmas Break!

Christmas Break!

July 13 2022; people 126

This a paper commemorated to the untimely loss of the preceding title, namely Christmas Break. How we came to find it, I cannot say, but as to the loss of it, well, having puzzled it out, at last is a story which I can tell.

It all began yesterday, after dark, when half of the family and I were doing some puzzling. Yes, we were building puzzles, which had been acquired during the late Christmas break. Well, my mother asked the little girls, who were not building puzzles, if they were ready for school. How she could have known that we would soon be back at it, I do not know. She must have had a dream or a vision because no human could have such foresight. Anyhow, these school-loving schoolgirls started chanting about “School-night! School-night! School-night!” and, alas, poor Christmas break must have heard them and, feeling like a debacle, slunk off in despair, for in the morning it was gone, and all its belongings went with it, and we had to set to work, schoolwork that is. Whether Christmas break is dead, or just simply hiding behind a nearby corner, I don’t know, but I do know that Christmas Break is no longer with us and in a fit of greatest sorrow, I penned this poem in its remembrance.

Christmas Break is gone, it’s so sad,

Christmas is brown, once in green was clad,

Awake in the night, in a tirade of tears,

I pour out my heart, I pour out my fears,

When everything is gone, when my heart feels dead,

I dry all my tears, and crawl into bed.

Yours somewhat sincerely
