Oncoming Night
July 12 2022; people 114
The setting sun bids farewell, and sinks away,
Casting its final ray on night’s dusky murk,
As the crystal sky turns to black from gray,
For the dismal blackness has come to lurk.
The oaken trees forebode their coming doom,
As night’s cruel fingers crush budding leaves,
The wind whispers news of a shadow gloom,
As starry light sifts through night’s darkened sieves.
The tremulous wolf in its terror howls,
The fearful rabbit shudders in its den,
The living darkness in its anger scowls,
Boasting of its horrid power, and then,
The glorious morning sun casts first light,
And terrified, darkness flees along with night.
